Saw this circling around Facebook and want to repost because I can’t agree more!
The Tumblr community is notorious for wanting novelty pets simply because of the novelty (fuzzy chicken, chinchilla, etc) without doing any research. Please, please please do your research before you even consider getting a rabbit for Easter. And NEVER buy one as a GIFT! They are a personal commitment that you must make yourself, not that you can make for other people or that other people can make for you.
That being said, shelter adoption is a very rewarding way to adopt rabbits into your life, should you decide you’re ready for the commitment. Shelters become overrun with rabbits after easter because of people being uneducated and deciding to surrender them after the novelty has worn off. There are thousands and thousands of rabbits without homes at these shelters that need someone to care for them!
Adopting my rabbit 5 years ago was the best decision I made, she has improved my quality of life considerably and I love her so much. Rabbits are intelligent and loving critters, but sometimes challenging, and if you are up to date with your knowledge on them, you and your rabbit can both have a rewarding life together.
The House Rabbit Society website has lots of info to get you started and I definitely urge anyone considering adopting one of these balls of love to thoroughly read their website and so some more research of your own! http://www.rabbit.org http://www.rabbit.org http://www.rabbit.org

I will reblog this every time I see it.

This is the same for every animal. Reptiles live for an extremely long time for pets, especially our tortoise friends,. Be willing to make the commitment—they are not toys, they are live animals.

This this this this this.  Everyone should know that impulse rabbit ownership is one of my major pet peeves.  Rabbits are fantastic pets, but they are not easy pets.  You can’t get one and expect it to be like a dog or a cat.  You need to pay much more attention to feeding and housing and you really need to train them and expose them to you and other stimuli.
At the bare minimum I believe that rabbits should be inside during the night, on a good, 70-90% roughage diet, desexed asap, and handled for at least an hour a day.  It’s kind of hard to stress the importance of this when pet shops sell rabbit hutches with the deal that you get the rabbit free :/
Additionally if you are Australian and don’t stop to think about bilbies around Easter I will be cross at you.

oh my heart

This is beautiful but also sort of upsetting? I can’t help but imagine being a little animal at the bottom, with these giant heads coming from the sky… ooh boy.

TW: animal abuse PLEASE SIGNAL BOOST

homopteran:

I would really appreciate a signal boost and action from anybody who is willing to help??

Basically, this person has been buying rabbits for the purpose of torture. Furthermore, he has been videotaping and photographing the gore, and sharing it on the internet to shock people with little or no warning about the content of the links.

His name is Patrick Cossette, but goes by Patrick T Nelson online. Here is his facebook, professional website, and address:

Patrick Cossette

900 S. Peninsula Dr #306

Daytona Beach, Fl. 32118

https://www.facebook.com/patrick.t.nelson?fref=ts

http://fullofepicwin.com/

He currently lives in Daytona, FL but will soon be moving to Atlanta, GA.

We have already attempted to contact local animal control agencies, police, and animal shelters - all to no avail. As a last hope we contacted PETA, who appear to want to help, but so far nothing has come of that either??

More info under the cut (TW: animal abuse, violence, gore, etc)
